10 Sites That Make Creating Websites Easier
September 30th, 2009, Posted in: Web Design and Development
When I started dabbling in web design a few years back I quickly found a list of websites that I bookmarked to reference over and over again. To this day I still frequent these sites and of course have added a few new sites to that list. In this post I am going to share my personal favorite 10 web design and development related sites that I couldn’t live without. Well I am sure that I would COULD live without them, but most definitely wouldn’t WANT to.
css-tricks.com
Chris Coyier offers up countless written tutorials and 70+ screencasts ready for download, this site is a must for a beginner or professional a like.
sixrevisions.com
Modern web compliant information for both web design AND development. This site offers a great deal of freebies ranging from icond to wordpress themes.
fontsquirrel.com
A great place to get free fonts for commercial use. They even have a nice collection of fonts for @font-face CSS embedding.
psdtuts.com
A showcase of some of the best PSD tutorials on the web. Another place to find great freebies.
html-ipsum.com
Need example text to mock up a design that you are working on? Head for this easy to use, well compiled collection of all things ipsum.
cssmayo.com
A fantastic place for design inspiration when you are having designers block. Or as I used it for early on a great place to see things that you like, and then try to recreate those details. I am by no means telling anyone to go steal ideas from other designers, but it never hurts to sharpen your craft by practicing others methods on your own time.
blog.spoongraphics.co.uk
Curated by Chris Spooner this site has a wonderful collection of tutorials and articles relating to Photoshop and Illustrator, as well as a few free resources for you to download.
smashingmagazine.com
Smashing has their finger on the pulse of everything cool about web design and development. The site offers up tons of great tutorials and articles on a myriad of design and development topics.
zentextures.com
Hundreds of free textures for you to use personally or commercially. This is a great place to get that little something that your design needs to set it off.
google.com
This may seem like I am cheating a little, but like I said in the beginning this is a list of sites that have unimaginably useful to me. Google, I believe, is not one that should go without saying. If you need to do something but don’t know how, or even worse can’t remember and didn’t write it down, search Google.
